It is official! DesignsByBert switched to Mac OS X.

After examining Microsoft VISTA we decided it is time to move on and leave the Windows OS behind.
Microsoft VISTA has nothing to offer to improve reliability and workflow for us at this point. We have waited several years for this new operating system from Microsoft. We are not impressed!

We dealt with MANY blue screens, random freezes, frequent reinstalls of the Windows Operating system, etc. Even the new Windows VISTA punished us with blue screens.
I believe the time is right to make the switch. Mac OS matured to a point that I could comfortably say, OK Let’s DO IT.

A new Mac Pro with 9GB Ram and 2TB hard drive space has been added June 9th, 2007.
It took about two weeks to transfer all files and only a few days to adapt to the Mac OS X operating system. It truly is a breeze.

All major applications we use are now also available for the Mac OS X platform.

We switched about two weeks ago and have yet to restart the machine. We have yet to experience a single freeze or crash of an application. So far we are VERY impressed with the reliability and performance of this system. This is completely new to us!

We did not say goodbye to the Windows Operating system though. We have it running in a window under Mac OS X for compatibility sake. How convenient switching to Mac OS X and still be able to run Windows within Mac OS X.

Things should settle down soon and we will be ready for new products at DesignsByBert.

How does the switch effect our Windows customer? Not at all! If anything we will be able to also make our products more Mac friendly.

I usually listen to music while I am working. No specific genre. Every genre is fine as long as it doesn't containing any foul/offending lyrics which people if they would use that kind of language at work would get fired in an instant.

I installed an audio stream server which I am currently using and testing. So there will be no set times when the link is working. Right now it is online when I am working or the computer is running.

The server allows multiple listers at the same time so I thought why not offer my users to tune in for free.

All you need is an audio player compatible with streaming MP3 audio like WinAMP, JetAudio, XMPlay, XMMS, iTunes, etc.

Mobis Technology approached us to develop and design their new website ‘JUST MOBILE’. It is all about quality accessories for mobile devices. So the main requirement is to put a professional and clean looking face to their company, represented by a new website.

The challenging part was to fit a whole website project into the limited budget for this website.

I usually do not create websites anymore, but sometimes it still triggers a voice in me saying ‘YOU MUST DO WEBSITE NOW’. Due to the budget limitations I skipped flash animations and all that other funky jazz.

The communication with the client was great and fast, just the way I like it.
My philosophy is ‘get it in and get it done ASAP’.

For websites like this you depend on images and content from the client. My part is to alter the art work so it fits well into the overall website design. Putting this in a presentable and professional form was the main priority.

It is a conservative website considering the programming. I used HTML and simple CSS. For this type of website this more than sufficient.
I created a bunch of optimized GIF animations to ad some momentum to the site. How boring would be still images. You would probably fall asleep before reaching a second page. My motto things have to move and that, in moderations.

This website is a perfect example of how to create a professional clean website with simple programming and good design.

The client was very pleased with the result and went online today with their new website.

We are now in the final stages of the update for Papyrus IconSet Symbian Edition.

This update will reduce the loading time of the icons from 30 seconds to about 1 second, causing a much better user experience.
The structure of the icon set will be completely different out of developer point of view. For the customer the only thing that will change will be dealing with less files and copying the new icons to a different location on the Symbian OS device.

The update will be available 23rd, January, 2007 (tomorrow) and will be free of charge to all current customer of this product.

No user / customer should be exposed to such dubious spam posts. We thought offering the freedom to post in parts of our forums without having to register would make things easier.
Little did we know that there are plenty of 'do no goods' out there just looking for opportunities like this to spread their sick adult content and links.
We had to make the following decision to eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) this form of spam abuse by allowing posts in our forums to registered users only.
That said everybody who would like to post messages/replies in our forums has to register first.
The registration is free and will always be free.
